モビリティデザインコンテストとは？
2024年3月25日(月)に公益社団法人自動車技術会主催の第12回モビリティデザインコンテストの表彰式が都内で行なわれた。このコンテストは自動車技術会デザイン部門委員会が行なっているモビリティデザイナー人材育成活動のプログラムのひとつであり、中学生と高校生を対象としている。
2012年から開始され今年で12回目を迎えたこのコンテストで、スタート当初はカーデザインコンテストと題されていたが昨年(第11回)よりモビリティデザインコンテストと改称している。
今年のテーマは「10年後の暮らしを楽しくする乗り物」
応募総数は378点(中学生88点、高校生290点)。自動車技術会に所属する自動車・二輪メーカー等のデザイナー及びエンジニア32名が審査にあたり、モビリティデザイン大賞1点、モビリティデザイン賞2点、ダビンチ賞1点、審査員特別賞2点、佳作22点が選出された。
大賞：山口レオン剛史さん(仏教教育学園東山中学校3年生)
モビリティデザイン賞：小路裕紀さん（千葉市立幕張中学校2年生）、鵜殿正基さん(千葉県立船橋高等学校2年生)
ダビンチ賞：寒河江美晴さん(女子美術大学附属高等学校2年生)
審査員特別賞：峯岸季市さん(高崎市立高崎経済大学附属高等学校2年生)、藤木真優さん(女子美術大学附属高等学校2年生)が受賞した。

プロデザイナーの直接指導
受賞した生徒達を対象に、表彰式後に現役デザイナーが受賞作品をマンツーマンで指導するということが受賞の副賞となっているのがこのコンテストの特徴であり、受賞をした生徒達にとっては貴重な体験となっている。今年からペンタブレットを使用した指導も始まった。次世代のモビリティデザイナーの誕生を目的としたこのコンテストからは実際に自動車・二輪メーカーで活躍するデザイナーが生まれている。
来年度以降も継続される。

次世代デザイナー育成のための地道で真剣な活動
このコンテストは、中高生の時期にモビリティデザインを通じて、ものづくりの魅力に触れることで自動車産業の発展に寄与する人材を育成することを目的とする公募企画。少子化時代を見据え、業界の内部にいるからこそ見える将来人材不足への不安を土台とした次世代人材の育成を持続的に継続しているところに高い価値がある。専門性を持つ職種なだけに敬遠される傾向もあるなかで、移動体のデザインに寄せられる期待は逆に高まる。地味であるが貴重な活動である。
12th Mobility Design Contest Award Ceremony
What is the Mobility Design Contest?
The award ceremony for the 12th Mobility Design Contest sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE) was held in Tokyo on Monday, March 25, 2024.
The contest is one of the mobility designer human resource development programs conducted by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan Design Division Committee, and is open to junior high and high school students.
The contest, which started in 2012, is now in its 12th year. The contest was originally titled the Car Design Contest, but was renamed the Mobility Design Contest last year (11th edition).
This year’s theme is “Vehicles that make life more enjoyable 10 years from now.”
The total number of entries was 378 (88 junior high school students and 290 high school students).
Thirty-two designers and engineers from automobile and motorcycle manufacturers and others affiliated with the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan judged the entries and selected one for the Mobility Design Grand Prize, two for the Mobility Design Award, one for the Da Vinci Award, two for the Jury’s Special Award, and 22 for honorable mentions.
◾️Grand Prize: Mr. Takeshi Leon Yamaguchi (3rd year student at Higashiyama Junior High School of Buddhist Educational Academy)
◾️Mobility Design Award: Mr. Yuki Koji (2nd year student at Makuhari Junior High School, Chiba City), Mr. Masamoto Udono (2nd year student at Funabashi Senior High School, Chiba Prefecture)
◾️Da Vinci Award: Miss. Miharu Sagae (2nd year student at Joshibi University of Art and Design Senior High School)
◾️Judges’ Special Prize: Mr. Sueichi Minegishi (2nd year student at Takasaki City Senior High School attached to Takasaki City Takasaki Keizai University) and Miss. Mayu Fujiki (2nd year student at Joshibi Senior High School attached to Joshibi University of Art and Design)
were awarded the prizes.

Direct guidance from professional designers
A unique feature of this contest is that the prize-winning students are given one-on-one instruction on their award-winning works by active designers after the awards ceremony, which is a valuable experience for the students who win the awards. This year, instruction using pen tablets has also begun.
This contest, which aims to create the next generation of mobility designers, has actually produced designers who are active in automobile and motorcycle manufacturers.
The contest will be continued next year and beyond.
Steady and serious activities to foster the next generation of designers
This contest is an open competition designed to develop human resources who will contribute to the development of the automotive industry by exposing them to the appeal of manufacturing through mobility design during their junior and senior high school years.
The contest is highly valuable in that it is a sustained effort to foster the next generation of human resources based on the concerns about the future shortage of human resources, which can be seen only from inside the industry, with an eye on the declining birthrate.
While there is a tendency for some people to avoid the profession because of its specialized nature, expectations for mobile design are on the contrary high. This is a modest but valuable activity.
