Giorgetto Giugiaro Involved in an Accident
At around 1:00 p.m. on July 25, Giorgetto Giugiaro was involved in a car accident on the island of Sardinia, but miraculously appears to have escaped with his life.
The accident occurred in Abbiadori, Costa Smeralda, on a winding road located about 4 kilometers from La Celvia, where Giugiaro owns a villa. While navigating a sharp right-hand curve between Cala di Volpe and Romazzino, his Land Rover Defender lost control, veered off the road, broke through a low stone wall, and rolled approximately 15 meters down to the road below.
Giugiaro managed to escape from the vehicle on his own and was rescued by emergency services, firefighters, and police who arrived at the scene. He was airlifted to Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Olbia. He sustained multiple injuries to his spine, face, and lower limbs, but his condition is reported to be stable and not life-threatening. He remains under observation.
According to his son, Fabrizio Giugiaro, Giorgetto was taken to the hospital, underwent a CT scan, and is currently being monitored. He is conscious and alert, and is expected to be discharged in a few days and return to Turin wearing a back brace.
This was a breaking report on Giugiaro’s near-fatal accident. We are greatly relieved to hear that the maestro is safe, and we sincerely wish him a swift and full recovery.
